Armed Forces Day Celebration Prompts Change in LEC Outage Plan

MONROVIA, Montserrado – In light of today’s celebration of Armed Forces Day, the Liberia Electricity Corporation has changed its power outage plan for the weekend.

Armed Forces Day is celebrated each year on Feb. 11.

According to an LEC announcement dated Feb. 9 and signed by James Kpargoi, the company’s communication strategist, the scheduled power outage for Saturday, Feb. 11 has been rescheduled for Monday, Feb. 13, from 8:00am to 5:00pm.

“The public and customers are reminded that the outage scheduled for Sunday, February 12, from 8:00am to 5:00pm, will, however, go ahead as planned,” the announcement read.

The message said the outage would allow for the installation of essential electrical equipment.

Lately, LEC has made improvements in communicating information to the public about power outages, however, the company does not usually follow its schedule. Sometimes, the electricity grid experiences power outages outside of the dates mentioned within notices. Other times, those outages occur outside the boundaries of the scheduled times. On Friday, Feb. 10, for example, there were no scheduled outages announced by LEC, however, many residents in Congo Town experienced outages that lasted for at least five hours.
