BYC FC Beats LISCR FC in FA Cup Final to Win Double Titles

MONROVIA, Montserrado – Barrack Young Controllers Football Club has concluded the 2018 Liberia football season in style after beating fellow first division side, LISCR FC, to win the 2018 Liberia Football Association knockout competition, known as the FA Cup.

BYC FC won the FA Cup following a comfortable 4-0 win over the 2017 champions, LISCR FC. The Go Blue Boys proved to be too much for the Shipping Boys after completely dominating them to win their second trophy in the 2018 season.

With LISCR being one of Liberia’s strongest club with some of the league best players and also the defending champions of the competition, the final against BYC was expected to be a competitive one. However, the reality of the match was far from expectations, with BYC humiliating LISCR.

Two goals from former LISCR FC striker Trokon Myers and a goal each from David Tweh and Mustapha Lomell were enough to deny LISCR FC the 2018 FA Cup title.

After dominating the opening minutes of play, BYC got off to a flying start in the 27th minute through David Tweh, who made a long run from the midfield area and shot from outside the penalty area to beat Tommy Songo in goal for LISCR FC.

BYC’s 1-0 lead lasted just six minutes and they added their second goal through Trokon Myers. Myers punished his former employer with a close-range strike to double the lead for BYC FC.

The two-goal lead before the 40th minute put LISCR FC in a difficult situation as they struggled to get pasta BYC FC defense led by center defender Eugene Swen. Things became worse for the Shipping Boys in the 40th minute when they were reduced to 10 men.

Sam Kollie was shown a straight red card for elbowing Eugene Swen in a header challenge. Playing with 10 men against a ruthless BYC FC, the winner of the game was a foregone conclusion.

It took BYC just seven minutes into the second half to start scoring again. Myers completed his brace in the 52nd minute to make the score 3-0 in favor of BYC FC. With the addition of the third goal, it all appeared to be over for a LISCR FC team that was looking for a consolation goal.

LISCR was unable to register a single goal as BYC continued their scoring spree. Substitute striker Mustapha Lomell got the match’s last goal in the 75th minute to complete BYC’s 4-0 win.

The Go Blue Boys walked away with a giant trophy and were presented a check of L$600,000 (US$3,822) while LISCR FC earned L$375,000 (US$2,388).

Despite being mercilessly beaten in the FA Cup Final, LISCR FC will go on represent Liberia in the 2018-19 CAF Confederations Cup while the first division and FA Cup Champions, BYC FC, will represent Liberia in the 2018-19 CAF Champions League.
