Court Endorses Tyler’s Revised Bond

MONROVIA, Montserrado – Judge Emery Paye has accepted the criminal appearance bond filed by indicted House Speaker Alex Tyler, after his team provided modifications in light of a challenge from the prosecution.

On May 27, Montserrado County Attorney Daku Mulbah challenged the US$150,000 bond filed on Tyler’s behalf in the ongoing bribery case stemming from the Global Witness report.

Mulbah claimed that the defendant’ bonds did not meet the necessary requirements for submitting bonds, according to the rules of the court.

Tyler’s legal team, realizing that the bond lacked the requirements raised by the prosecution, made the necessary attachments to meet the legal requirements. These included an article of incorporation of the Sky International Insurance Corporation, a business registration certificate for 2016, tax clearance certificates, bank statements, and an independent audited financial statement.

Mulbah tried to argue that the original criminal appearance bond that the defendant submitted to the court did not include these documents but the judge ruled to accept Tyler’s bond.

The House Speaker has yet to plead guilty or not guilty to the charges of bribery, criminal conspiracy, economic sabotage, and criminal facilitation.
