Jebor and Saudi Club Mutually Terminate Contract

Lone Star’s top striker, William Jebor, has seen his time in Saudi Arabia cut short, in a disappointing end to the winter transfer window.

With just two days to end the 2018 winter transfer, the Liberian international contract with Saudi Professional League club Al Nassr was terminated by mutual agreement.

The former Wydad Striker spent only six months with the Riyadh-based club before his unplanned departure. The Saudi side grew frustrated with the striker, who failed to live up to expectations. From 11 games, he managed just three goals, an unusual tally for the hat-trick king.

Jebor’s poor form with Al Nassr began before the start of the 2017-18 Saudi Professional League when the club participated in the 2017 Arab Championship in Egypt. He failed to score in three matches as the club exited the tournament just after the group stage.

Following their dismissal from the Arab Championship, Nassr began the league with 3-1 win away at Al Faisaly, with Jebor failing to make the match day squad. However, he made his first league appearance in Nassr’s next game, which resulted in a disappointing 2-2 draw with Al Ittifaq at home. Jebor came off the bench in the 82ndminute to replace Yehya Al Sheri to make his league debut.

Again, he failed to make the starting eleven in Nassr’s third league match away at Al Ahli. With Nassr down by an early goal, Jebor came off the bench to help his side obtain a point away from home. He came on in the 63rd minute for Mohammad Ibrahim and scored in the 84th minute to level the score.

After scoring his first goal on match day-three against Al Ahli, Jebor, who was once regular on the scoresheet in Morocco, had to wait for five games before getting his second for the club. He registered his name on the scoresheet in Nassr’s 3-1 win over Al Fateh. His third and final goal for Nassr came four matches after scoring his second Nassr’s goal in narrow 3-2 defeat to Al Ittifaq.

With the winter transfer window shutting down on the 30th of January, Jebor will have to make a late transfer if he is to continue playing during the 2017-18 season or remain on the sidelines until the summer transfer window, which is expected to be opened in July.

The Liberian star had previously spent two disappointing years in Europe with Portuguese Premier Liga club, Rio Ave and Spanish side, Ponferradina. But the 26-year old striker reawakened his career during the 2016-17 season with Moroccan side, Wydad Casablanca, where he managed to score 23 goals in all competitions, finishing the season as the top goal scorer for the Moroccan Botola Pro League.
