SKD Stadium Renovation to Be Completed in April 2017

PAYNESVILLE, Montserrado – The Chinese contractors renovating the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex said the stadium would be completed on April 8, 2017.

Speaking through an English interpreter, one of the Chinese contractors, Ding Wei, said the repairs would include the interior and exterior painting of the stadium and leveling of the playing pitch.

Ding said the heavy rains during Liberia’s rainy season often disrupted the work on the stadium and could potentially delay the restoration efforts.

“We ask for a little patience,” he said. “Liberians will soon start kicking balls on their own field.”

Ding lauded what he called remarkable efforts made by the Liberian sub-contractors working on the project, adding that they are also committed to seeing that the stadium is completed by the scheduled date.

In return, a Liberian contractor, Cassius Walker, praised the Chinese contractors for establishing a good working relationship with the Liberians workers.

The SKD Sports Complex was taken out of commission for necessary repairs due to normal wear and tear. The complex has a basketball court, a football field, and a track for athletics, among other features. Last year’s county meet did not include any athletics competitions because of the ongoing renovation.
