Theo Weeks Grabs Another Win in Europa league

Liberian international midfielder Theo Weeks is continuing to enjoy success with his new Azerbaijani Club, Gabala FK, which he joined less than a month ago.

Weeks joined Gabala on a year loan from Cypriot division one club, Ermis Aradippou and has established himself as a key player on the team.

After advancing to the second round of the Europa League competition, Gabala earned another first leg victory after clinching a narrow 2-1 win away from home. Goals from Georgian forward Nika Kvekveskiri and Croatian midfielder, Filip Ozobic in the 25th and 63rd minute were enough to deny MTK Budapest from getting a point at home.

Weeks, who played all 90 minutes, said he is confident of his side defending their lead. The 26-year-old told The Bush Chicken that his team would not be complacent and would put up a fight at home.

“We came here for a win, and fortunately for us, we got the three points,” he said. “In a competition like the Europa League, it’s very difficult to get a win away. We played harder and got a win. We are not relaxing until the second leg is over. We will be at home, and we are going to fight harder than the first leg. Budapest needs to win. There will be a lot of pressure on us. We have to believe in ourselves and fight harder to reach the next round.”

With the three points collected away from home, Gabala has taken a giant step towards reaching the group stage of the 2016-2017 Europa League. Gabala will have to defend their lead in the return leg on July 21 at the Gabala City Stadium if they are to progress to the third qualifying round.
