Unity Party Releases Provisional Listing of Contenders

GBARNGA, Bong – Prior to Unity Party’s 2016 national convention in Gbarnga, the chairman of the convention, Rep. Prince K. Moye, provided a provisional listing of candidates vying for positions in the party.

The Bong lawmaker made the disclosure on Super Bongese Radio. According to Moye, those names were made available to him through the party’s subcommittee on elections, headed by Clarence Massaquoi.

“Considering all of the criteria setups, we have Vice President Joseph N. Boakai as the lone candidate vying for the standard bearer ship of the party,” he said. “And for the Chairmanship of the party, we have only one person for now and that person is Wilmot Paye vying for that position.”

Moye said two persons are in the race for the youth chairmanship of the party, while four others are vying for the chairmanship of the National Women’s Wing of the party adding, “Our own superintendent of this county, Madam Selena Polson-Mappy is in the race.”

With regards to the position of General Secretary of the party, Moye said there are two individuals that submitted applications for the position. He named Information Minister Eugene Nagbe and Henry Fahnbulleh as the contenders.

Moye said the party was working to ensure that all individuals met the criteria established in the Unity Party constitution, the constitution of Liberia, and the requirements of the National Elections Commission.
