Now playing in Norway, Sam Johnson has continued his dominance on the pitch after scoring during his official debut for the Valerenga Football Club.
The former Nimba Football Club striker scored the only goal for Valerenga on the opening day of the top-flight league of Norwegian football, the Eliteserien. After a goalless first half draw, Johnson got the match winner in the 63rd minute.
Sam Johnson’s match-winning goal took Valerenga to the sixth place on the Eliteserien with three points, leveled with Molde FK, IK Start, Bodo-Flimt, Huaugesund and Sarpsborg 08, who all won their first matches with more goals.
Johnson will be hoping to get his name on the score sheet for the second time during the weekend when his side plays their first match at home against Odds BK. The two sides will meet on Sunday, March 18 at the Intility Arena in Olso. With Odds losing their first game 2-1 to Haugesund in their first match, Valernaga is expected to be given a real test when they meet their visitors, who will be hungry for their first win of the new season.
Johnson completed a move to the Norwegian side during the just-ended winter transfer season after seeing his time in China cut prematurely. Despite performing his normal scoring duties with Chinese League One club Wuhan Zall, Johnson saw his 3.5-year contract cut short after the club released him before the 2018 Chinese League season.
He was replaced by Brazilian-born Croatian international Jorge Sammir, who later failed to match Johnson’s scoring statistics. Sammir’s two goals from his twelve appearances were far fewer than Johnson’s six goals in eleven games.
