With only a handful of licensed opticians in Liberia Dr. Willnella Peters, a native of Liberia, decided to develop a non-profit organization to provide free eye care in Liberia and other developing nations. The Bush Chicken spoke with Dr. Peters about the work her organization HEALS, which stands for Helping Eyes against the Loss of Sight, and what their plans are for the future.

Several squatters occupying the facility of the Catherine Mills Rehabilitation Center are making ends meet on the ruins of that former mental health hospital.

New Airstrip Improves Access to Jackson F. Doe Memorial Hospital

A new airstrip has been constructed and dedicated in Tappita. The 900 kilometers long airstrip was constructed by the relief organization, Samaritan Purse International, and Mission Aviation Fellowship. It was formally dedicated and turned over to the Liberia Airport Authority on March 19.
