BYC FC II Crowned Second Division Champions; Freeport and Bea Mountain Grab First Division Slots

MONROVIA, Montserrado – The 2019 Liberia Football Association second division league has officially come to an end with Barrack Young Controller FC-II finishing as champions.

The Junior Go Blue Boys finished the league with 62 points from 30 games. They won 18 games, drew eight, and lost four of their 30 games played to win the title. Not only did Barrack Young Controller FC-II climax the league as champions but their striker Jestino Jackson finished as the top scorer, with 20 goals.

They were crowned champions on the final day of the league games following a 5-0 win over Jai FC. The Junior Go Blue walked away with a trophy and a cash prize of L$650,000 (US$3,234). As a feeder team to the first division Barrack Young Controller FC, BYC II will not be promoted to the first division.

Finishing second behind Barrack Young Controller FC-II were 2018 second division champions Bea Mountain Football Club. The Bomi-based team missed out on winning the league title following their poor performance in the second phase of the league but managed to finish second and grab a place in the first division. Bea Mountain was promoted in the first division along with Freeport Football Club, which finished third with 52 points from 30 games.

To complete the three teams that will qualify to the first division, fifth-placed Nimba Kwado will play the sixth-placed side Muscat Football Club in a home and away fixture. The aggregate winner from the two teams will join Bea Mountain and Freeport Football Club as promoted teams to the first division.

Meanwhile, Srimex Football Club, Page Football Club, and Heaven Eleven will play in the relegation playoff. The three clubs will battle each other in a round-robin match and the team with the most points will remain in the second division while the remaining two clubs will join Invincible Eleven, Samira Football Club, Junior Pro Football Club, and Bristol Football Club as the team relegated to the third division.
