Lewis Brown Recalled as Liberia’s Representative to the UN

MONROVIA, Montserrado – Acting on the orders of President George Weah, Foreign Minister Gbehzohngar Findley has recalled Lewis Brown, the current ambassador and permanent representative to the United Nations.

“I have been directed by Weah to have you recalled from the post with immediate effect,” Findley wrote to Brown in the letter dated August 20. In 2016, Brown was appointed by former president Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.

The foreign Minister directed Brown to provide the names of his family members for the purpose of providing him with air tickets and shipment for his personal belongings and to officially take leave of the secretary general of the United Nations immediately.

“You will also be contacted by the deputy foreign affairs minister for administration with respect to your return to Liberia,” Findley indicated.

Before his appointment as permanent representative to the United Nations, Brown was Liberia’s information minister between 2012 and 2016. In 2003, he was the minister of foreign affairs and chief negotiator at the Accra peace talks, having served as minister of state for presidential affairs in 2002.

Before that, Brown was national security adviser and adviser on political and domestic affairs at the Ministry of State for Presidential Affairs between 1999 and 2001.
