LFA Announces WAFU Local Organizing Committee

MONROVIA, Montserrado – Less than a week after the resignation of Musa Shannon as chair of the West African Football Union U-20 Cup organizing committee, the Liberia Football Association has announced a new chair for the tournament that is to be hosted in Liberia.

The LFA made the announcement via their official Facebook page on Friday, April 20. According to the release, the appointment was sanctioned by the Liberia Football Association and the first vice president of WAFU. Five familiar names were listed in the local organizing committee.

The LFA named Barrack Young Controller Football Club’s senior team president, Sekou Konneh, as the new chairman of the local organizing committee. Konneh will be co-chaired by Rep. Munah Pelham-Youngblood of Montserrado’s ninth district.

Members of the committee include outgoing executive committee member D. Sheba Browne, newly elected LFA executive committee member Pepci Yeke, and deputy minister of youth and sports, Andy Quamie, who is also on the committee as the government’s representative.

Shannon, who is currently in the LFA presidential runoff election with LISCR FC’s president, Mustapha Raji, resigned his position as chairman of the local organizing committee to focus on his bid to become the next president of the football house.

The tournament is expected to begin on Tuesday, April 24 at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex. The secretary general of WAFU Zone A, Jammeh E.K Bojang, along with officials and technicians from WAFU, landed in the country on Saturday, April 20.
