Liberian Duo Clinches the Laos Premier League

Liberian footballers are not known for playing in Europe’s top leagues and clubs, but they continue to make their mark in their respective football leagues.

Within the period of three years, four Liberians have seen their teams crowned league champions.

South African based Anthony Snothi Laffor won the 2013-2014 South African ABSA Premier League with the Mamelodi Sundowns. Before Kpah Sherman moved to the South African club Black Aces FC in the summer of 2015, he won the 2014-2015 Tanzania Premier League with Young African Sports Club.

On October 25, Liberian duo Alvin Dixon and Jerome Doe, currently based in the Asian state of Laos, were crowned champions of the Laotian Premier League. Their Club Lao Toyota thrashed Lao Police 3-1 in their last match of the season to wrap up the 2015 league season with 48 points from 20 games.

Despite having equal points with second placed team Lanexang United, the head-to-head rules held Lanexang United back and helped Lao Toyota win the glory. With the first leg ending in a goalless draw away at Lanexang United FC, Lao Toyota responded well in the second leg by thumping their counterparts 3-1 at home.

“I’m happy today,” Dickson said after the match. “One of the best moments in my life. Being crowned champion of the Laos Premier League today is something very special. God is the reason behind this success. I dedicate my success to all Liberians across the world. It’s a great motivation for me.”

Dixon moved to Laos in 2014. He last played for LISCR FC in Liberia’s first division league before his departure to Laos, while his compatriot Doe won his second league title with Lao Toyota.
